JUBA, South Sudan — October 4, 2026
South Sudan’s Ministry of Petroleum is pushing to attract more domestic and foreign investment as the government seeks to increase oil production and strengthen the country’s petroleum sector.
Caretaker Petroleum Minister Awow Daniel Chuang recently met Nile Petroleum Corporation (Nilepet) Managing Director Emmanuel Athiei and other oil-sector partners to review industry performance and discuss investment and production opportunities.
The discussions focused on improving the business environment, encouraging sustainable production and strengthening cooperation with petroleum partners linked to China, India and Egypt. The ministry is also preparing an action plan intended to address investment and operational challenges while supporting increased production.
The investment drive comes as South Sudan’s oil industry remains central to the national economy. The Ministry of Petroleum currently lists producing blocks operated by three consortia as well as several exploration blocks and additional areas available for investment.
Attracting investment into oil production, infrastructure and refining remains an important part of the government's broader efforts to strengthen the South Sudan economy.
