Stephen Par Kuol Says SPLM-IO Has Not Changed Its Name

July 23, 2026 • 05:01 AM

Stephen Par Kuol, the interim chairman of the SPLM-IO breakaway faction, says the movement has not changed its name. Speaking during the opening of the group's new headquarters in Juba on Tuesday, Kuol said the party remains officially registered as the **SPLM-IO**. He dismissed reports that the faction had rebranded as the "IO Party," saying there has been confusion following recent divisions within the opposition movement.
