JUBA, South Sudan — October 11, 2026
South Sudan's President Salva Kiir Mayardit has reiterated that senior government officials holding constitutional offices must obtain permission before travelling outside the country.
According to the Presidency, Kiir restated the requirement on Saturday, October 10, during an expanded caretaker government meeting in Juba. The meeting followed his recent diplomatic visits to Kenya and South Africa. Radio Tamazuj
The announcement comes after a document dated October 3 circulated publicly, reportedly restricting foreign travel by senior government officials and members of the organized forces for three months without presidential approval.
However, the document's authenticity and enforcement have not been independently verified. South Sudan Press
The directive comes as South Sudan prepares for its general elections scheduled for December 22, 2026.
During Saturday's meeting, the caretaker government also reviewed election preparations, regional diplomatic engagements and security arrangements ahead of the planned vote.
The development adds to ongoing discussions about government administration and political preparations in South Sudan.
