President Kiir Meets South African President Cyril Ramaphosa During Working Visit

PRETORIA, South Africa — August 27, 2026 South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit met South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on Thursday as part of his working visit to South Africa. The meeting took place at Mahlamba Ndlopfu, President Ramaphosa's official residence in Tshwane, Gauteng. South Africa's Presidency confirmed the bilateral meeting and released footage showing the two leaders greeting each other before beginning their talks. President Kiir travelled to South Africa on Sunday, August 23, for a working visit expected to continue until August 31. According to earlier information from Kiir's office, the visit was expected to include discussions with President Ramaphosa on bilateral relations and issues affecting South Sudan. Kiir is accompanied by Presidential Affairs Minister Africano Mande and Adut Salva Kiir, a senior presidential envoy for special programmes. The visit comes at an important time for South Sudan as the country prepares for general elections scheduled for December 22, 2026 and continues efforts to implement the 2018 Revitalized Peace Agreement.
