DAMAZIN, Sudan — October 8, 2026
At least four women were killed and several other civilians injured after drone strikes hit residential areas in Damazin, the capital of Sudan’s Blue Nile state, on Wednesday, October 7.
The attacks struck the Al-Hijra neighbourhood, damaging homes and a mosque. Reports also indicated that a technical college and the residence of Blue Nile state Finance Minister Abbas Kara were targeted.
Sudan’s Emergency Lawyers group blamed the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) for the attacks and called for accountability. However, responsibility has not been independently established, and the RSF had not publicly responded to the allegations when the reports were published.
The incident comes amid continued fighting between Sudan’s military and armed opposition groups in Blue Nile state, near the borders with Ethiopia and South Sudan.
The violence adds to concerns about civilian safety, displacement and humanitarian conditions in the region.
