Big Tech Invests $2.4 Trillion in AI

August 3, 2026 • 04:31 AM

The world's biggest technology companies are investing heavily in artificial intelligence (AI). Alphabet, Amazon, Meta, and Microsoft have committed nearly $2.4 trillion to AI projects, including data centers, computer chips, and cloud infrastructure. Alphabet has the largest commitment at about $900 billion, followed by Meta with $700 billion. Amazon plans to spend $220 billion this year, while Microsoft is also making major long-term investments. The huge spending has put pressure on company finances. Alphabet and Amazon have reported negative free cash flow, while Meta's cash flow has also fallen sharply. Despite the costs, all four companies remain profitable and believe AI will drive future growth. They are betting that strong demand for AI services will make these investments worthwhile.
